John,
Earlier this month, we emailed you about urging Congress to pass the Women's Health Protection Act — legislation that would codify Roe v. Wade into law.
Since then, an INCREDIBLY disturbing and extreme anti-choice law came out of Texas, placing a $10,000 bounty on abortion providers.
This law, called S.B. 8, authorizes “any person” to sue anyone who provides an abortion after six weeks, anyone who helps another person obtain an abortion after six weeks (including people like Uber drivers), or anyone who “intends” to do these things.
S.B. 8 offers up a bounty of at least $10,000 per violation proven, payable by the abortion provider or assister to the person who sued them. If this law takes effect in September, it will be one of the most extreme attacks on reproductive freedom that we’ve ever seen.
Codifying Roe v. Wade into law couldn't be more critical. Join us by adding your name supporting the passage of the Women's Health Protection Act here.
This legislation in Texas would give any antiabortion activist, ex-partner, disapproving neighbor, or random stranger the ability to weaponize the legal system against pregnant patients, completely violating all healthcare privacy and body autonomy.
Most people do not know that they’re pregnant before six weeks, and S.B. 8 not only blocks abortions after that point, but it enlists private citizens to act as vigilante enforcement. This is an all-out attack on women and folks with marginalized gender identities.
We must pass the Women's Health Protection Act codifying Roe v. Wade into law. Add your name to demand its passage here.
Thank you for your support,
