Texans Need Reproductive Justice, not harmful legislation. |
Friend,
Two weeks ago, Governor Abbott released his agenda items for the special legislative session — and instead of fixing our electrical grid or expanding healthcare access in the wake of a new COVID strain, he prioritized items that attack Texans and their families. Here are just a few of the harmful items the Governor chose to focus on: *Banning access to safe medication that induces abortion; *Resurrecting the regular session’s anti-voter omnibus bill; *Attacking transgender children who participate in school athletics; and, *Making it harder for low-income Texans and Texans of color to post bail, trapping them in jail while they await trial. With an agenda so egregious and the odds of defeating these measures so low, Texas Democrats left the state to break quorum, temporarily blocking them from passing. Now Governor Abbott is telling the press that he will call yet another special session on the same harmful issues.
Texans have begged and pleaded for real solutions to real problems, but the Governor and his extremist allies are ignoring us in favor of outdoing their primary election opponents — appealing to a small percentage of the electorate at the expense of everyone else. Texans deserve better. Join us in telling Abbott to start prioritizing the real needs of Texans, instead of attacking our reproductive rights, voting rights, low-income Texans and Texans of color, and transgender children. |
