John -
Imagine a world where accessing abortion pills was as easy as going to your local pharmacy, or even better, just a short walk to your mailbox ... That future may be closer than you realize!
In May, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it would conduct a full review of the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) for mifepristone, one of two drugs used for medication abortion. [1] During the pandemic, the FDA temporarily lifted the in-person dispensing requirement on mifepristone and that change could become permanent for people living in states without laws that ban access to abortion pills through telemedicine. Information about abortion pills belongs in the hands of everyone; learn more here.
There is no scientific or medical justification for requiring pregnant people to travel to a hospital, clinic, or medical office just to pick up medication they will take at home. Mifepristone has been used by more than four million people in the United States since 2000, but it has been subject to unnecessary politicization that has limited access. We know from research that medication abortion care via telehealth is safe, effective, and increases access to time-sensitive essential health care. Restrictions on abortion pills are not only unnecessary, but fall hardest on people of color, those who live in rural areas, LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming folks, and people struggling to make ends meet.
Our world is changing, so should abortion access.
Thank you for fighting for abortion access with us.
