Dear Colleague,

The latest issue ([link removed]) of the Clearinghouse’s quarterly research digest ([link removed]) provides abstracts of articles from the peer-reviewed literature on male circumcision, with a focus on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention.

This issue covers articles published from 1 April to 30 June 2021. Links are provided to either the abstract online or the full text of articles that are open access. For additional information on VMMC, search the Clearinghouse’s Resource Library ([link removed]) .

Featured Articles
* In a randomized trial ([link removed]) in Kenya, getting circumcised reduced men’s chances of acquiring human papillomavirus (HPV) and improved HPV clearance.

* A review ([link removed]) of five years of program data in Zimbabwe found that complications occurred with less than 2% of VMMC procedures and decreased every year and over time.

* A systematic review and meta-analysis ([link removed](21)00102-9/fulltext) concluded that promoting VMMC for HIV prevention does not appear to increase higher-risk sexual behavior among men.

Other abstracts featured in the digest address the sustainability of VMMC services in Kenya, the targeting of VMMC services in South Africa, the factors associated with low uptake of VMMC in Rwanda’s Nyanza Province, and the use of mobile devices by gender in communities affected by HIV in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

Best regards,

Clearinghouse Webmaster
