Make a call and we’ll send you a thank you gift Indivisibles -- just as we were getting ready to send this email, Senate Republicans voted against moving forward a bipartisan infrastructure bill they helped to draft, using the filibuster to kill a bill that had majority support! It's just another example of how McConnell and the Republican party aren't negotiating in good faith and are just out to block the will of the majority. We’re tired of watching this game, so certainly Senate Democrats are getting tired of playing it. It's time to pass bold bills without waiting on Republican votes that will never come. Kill the filibuster so we can get to the business of governing. This is getting ridiculous. - Indivisible Team
Indivisibles,
If the Senate doesn’t pass S.1 (the For the People Act) before they leave for August recess, we’re in a boatload of trouble. Critical voter protection reforms, limits on dark money, and fixes to gerrymandering are all in the bill, and if it doesn’t pass before august recess, experts say there won’t be enough time to implement those provisions before next year’s election. We can’t let Mitch McConnell wield the Jim Crow Filibuster to stop us.
That’s why we’re asking you: Can you call your senators and tell them to abolish the filibuster to pass the For the People Act this month? If you make a call today, we’ll even send you a free sticker as a thank you for fighting for our democracy:
Republicans know that the filibuster is their best chance to stop this bill -- it’s their favorite tool to stop progress on our priorities (but of course, they’ve already abolished it to pass theirs!). That’s why it’s up to us to make sure every Senator, including Democrats, knows the American people demand this bill be passed and that we refuse to let an antiquated, anti-civil-rights tactic get in the way.
Click here to call your senators, and don’t forget to hit “I’m done!” on the red bar at the bottom after you call to order your free sticker.
There’s not much time to waste, but we know we’re up to the challenge: we’ve won tough fights before, and if we all step up, we’ll win this one too.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
