A $500 million Medicaid boost gives Colorado a chance to re-do its disability services

Colorado Sun

Nancy Bach, 63, can handle most of the daily tasks for her 36-year-old niece, Elizabeth, who has developmental disabilities.

Colorado is about to get $500 million over the next three years that advocates for people with disabilities hope will help solve problems experienced by the Bachs and many others.

A bigger Medicaid match from the American Rescue Plan will help Colorado pay for things including better training for home health and personal care aids, retention bonuses, and new systems allowing caretaking families to directly hire their own choice of personal aid.

Remember -- Colorado Republicans like Lauren Boebert, Ken Buck, and Doug Lamborn all voted 'No' to helping Colorado families.

Meanwhile, all of Colorado's Democratic members of the Congressional delegation voted 'Yes'!

But how else does the American Rescue Plan specifically help Coloradans, you ask? Click the link to find out!

Volunteer of the Week

Image

No sooner had Janean moved to Montezuma County with her husband, Bill, and son, Nic, late last year, than she stepped up to help the Montezuma County Dems by running for 2nd VC Chair in February, turning her deep belief in democratic values into actions. She’s already put her formidable computer skills and creative talents to work by updating our website, designing a welcome postcard for new Dems, organizing our google drive and files, creating flyers, and many other accomplishments.

She’s taken on the future-proofing of our county party as a particular goal, something that will have positive effects for years to come. In her spare time, she’s an amazing photographer of people, family, wildlife and real estate. She worked for 16 years in government social programs as well. Thank you, Janean, for all you do for the Montezuma County Democrats!

Want to volunteer and help elect Democrats across Colorado? Click the button below to join our talent bank, and we'll get you plugged in!
