Dear Emgage advocates,
Yesterday, Emgage Action and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) held a press conference marking the release of a joint report to address the growing threat of domestic terrorism by white supremacists, the double standards in terrorism investigations and prosecutions, and the need to adopt a consistent approach to labeling and combating terrorism.
Now, our report, The Double Standards of U.S. FTO vs. DTO Prosecution, released yesterday in our press conference in the United States Capitol, is available to you! MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati with Emgage Action CEO Wa'el Alzayat On behalf of our team, we want to thank Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Congressman André Carson for their leadership, partnership, and for helping us make yesterday’s press conference possible. Empirical evidence shows that the greatest domestic threat to our country is white supremacist violence. In a recently issued report, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence warned of an elevated risk posed by domestic violent extremists (DVEs) and identified that extremists “who promote the superiority of the white race are the DVE actors with the most persistent and concerning transnational connections, because individuals with similar ideological beliefs exist outside of the United States and these RMVEs (racially motivated violent extremists) frequently communicate with and seek to influence each other.”
As our government seeks to address this threat, it is critical that law enforcement and national security agencies apply the same standards irrespective of the ethnicity or religion of perpetrators. The double standards applied in the past have disproportionally targeted communities of color and subjected them to unnecessary surveillance and harassment. Muslims who commit acts of mass violence are often linked to foreign terror organizations and prosecuted accordingly, while white counterparts are not, despite ample evidence pointing to the global nature of white supremacy.
We will share the recommendations in this report with Congress and the Biden Administration, as well as the public at large. We hope that you check it out and share it widely.
Best regards,
Wa'el Alzayat, Emgage Action CEO Follow us on social media |
