Just last week, the expansion of the Child Tax Credit went into effect — a direct payment included in the American Rescue Plan that is bringing immediate financial relief to families as we work our way through the pandemic.
The expansion of the Child Tax Credit brings in an additional $3,000 to $3,600 per child to most families — historic financial relief for working families across the country. In NY-16 alone, over 124,400 children will benefit from this credit — more than 75% of our youth.
John, despite the widespread call for financial support for working families, not a single Republican elected voted for this expansion. And while Republicans are attempting to take credit for this victory, we know that Democrats are the ones who put this legislation into action. And progressives like Jamaal are fighting to pass even more bold and transformative legislation like this.
