Last week, working families began to receive monthly payments from a significantly expanded Child Tax Credit that I was proud to support as part of the American Rescue Plan.

According to Columbia University's Center on Poverty and Social Policy, these payments could help lift five million children out of poverty — reducing the overall rate of child poverty by 50%.

35 million households, representing 88% of families with children, will receive monthly payments of up to $300 per child.

1.9 million families in New York alone will get the payment, and it will make a significant difference for families on the edge of poverty.
