AMAZON MAKES NEW AFFORDABLE HOUSING INVESTMENT IN ARLINGTON
|
|
This month, Amazon announced it will donate $40 million in vacant land on Crystal House parcels, creating more than 550 new affordable homes in the County. The announcement is a part of Amazon’s commitment earlier this year to provide $381.9 million in low-rate loans and grants to the Washington Housing Conservancy through its Housing Equity Fund.

NEW LEADERSHIP AT ARLINGTON HOUSING NONPROFITS
|
|
2021 brings transitions to housing organizations in Arlington with new leaders taking the helm at both APAH and AHC. APAH's former Executive Vice President Carmen Romero has assumed the role of President and CEO following Nina Janopaul's retirement this spring. Likewise, AHC, Inc. announced that Susan Cunningham has been appointed interim CEO while a nationwide search is conducted for the spot.
AHS wishes these two incoming leaders the best of luck as they bring a new generation of ideas and energy to Arlington's affordable housing challenges.

QUEENS COURT AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMUNITY OPENS
|
|
After more than a decade of planning, the new Queens Court Apartments opened in June in Rosslyn. This critically needed housing will provide affordable homes for 249 households. The 12-story complex replaced 39 garden apartments that were built in 1940.

Housing, Equity, and Race: Fair Housing in the DMV Region

How do we expand housing choices in the DMV? Join a free interactive workshop that will inform a regional fair housing plan. The workshops will be facilitated by Challenging Racism in partnership with Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. Choose from one of two dates available.

The Ellen M. Bozman Affordable Housing Award is given annually in recognition of organizations and/or individuals who demonstrate a commitment to the preservation of housing affordability in Arlington. In this way, we hope to highlight and encourage the work in which AHS founder Ellen Bozman so strongly believed.

Eviction Prevention Fairs

Various Dates
Need Help with Rent? DHS's Economic Independence Division will be hosting several Eviction Prevention Fairs over the next month at locations around the County. You can also apply for SNAP, Medicaid, and much more. Bring with you a photo ID, your lease or rental agreement, evidence of the rent amount owed, and proof of income or loss of income. Looking to learn about Arlington's racial history? The County has just released the first two spans of a comprehensive online timeline marking key historical events related to housing, education, community facilities, public safety, transportation, urban planning, public infrastructure, and more. These timelines are a critical component of the County’s broader Commitment to Racial Equity, following the County Board’s 2019 Equity Resolution.
