Now more than ever, we must pass H.R. 1, the For the People Act , and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act .

Last week, Democratic state lawmakers in Texas left the state to prevent their Republican colleagues from achieving a quorum to pass unprecedented voting restrictions. President Biden also addressed the country to urge Congress to respond to the ongoing assault on voting rights led by the Republican Party.

With the Supreme Court ruling in GOP’s favor, it’s crucial that Congress protects the right to vote. We must stand in solidarity with the Texas Democratic lawmakers who are fighting voter suppression. Congress must act on the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect the foundation of our democracy.

The recent uptick in Republican voter suppression efforts are due to the record breaking voter turnout we saw in last year’s election. Tens of millions of Americans voted by mail to build back better with President Biden, but now the GOP is plotting to further restrict ballot access in an attempt to steal our elections.

Worst of all, these efforts disproportionately impact people of color who have traditionally had a harder time exercising their right to vote in the first place.

It is critical that Congress protects the right to vote for people of all backgrounds. Our sacred right to vote allows every American to make their voice heard in our democracy.
