Support the ACLU's legal teams across the country

Friend –

In state after state, legislatures continue to work overtime to craft and pass new bills that weaken or totally dismantle the progress that's been made in truly extending America's fundamental rights to all.

Now, as many of these attacks are making their way into state law, we must ramp up our efforts in the courts to stop them in their tracks.

That's why I'm calling on every ACLU supporter to make a gift today. Your generosity will immediately be put toward ensuring our legal teams have the resources to sustain – and win – the fight in courtrooms throughout the country.

And make no mistake: The ACLU will continue to confront state lawmakers at every turn – in the courts and legislatures – across all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

But your backing is a major reason why we can be at the forefront of this fight.

In fact, as you read this email, we have staffers and attorneys like myself challenging laws in several states, including:

* In Texas, where we filed a major lawsuit to challenge the state's extreme new law that bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy and authorizes anyone to sue an abortion provider and collect at least $10,000 for each abortion if they win. Meanwhile, our national and affiliate teams have been moving quickly to fight against the cavalcade of voter suppression bills that target voters of color and voters with disabilities, anti-trans bills attacking trans youth, and even more restrictive abortion bills, all introduced over the last two weeks in the state's special legislative session.

* In West Virginia, where we're contesting the state's law banning transgender girls and women from participating in school sports.

* In Arkansas, where we are in court today in our lawsuit filed on behalf of four transgender youth and their families as well as two doctors challenging the state's law that prohibits health care professionals from providing or even referring transgender young people for medically necessary health care. We're also leading a suit to block Arkansas' ban on abortion in nearly every case and imposes stiff criminal penalties on doctors for providing care if it is allowed to go into effect.

* In Georgia, where the ACLU – along with our affiliate, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., Southern Poverty Law Center, and law firms WilmerHale and Davis Wright Tremaine – filed suit against the state's sweeping voter restriction law, which places unjustified constraints on voters, particularly voters of color, voters with disabilities, and other historically disenfranchised communities.

* And in Florida, Arizona, and Iowa where we're pushing back against anti-protest bills that stifle free speech and trample on people's First Amendment rights.

ACLU Supporter, I can't stress enough how these are only a few of many legal actions we're working to file fast against the wave of state-level attacks on our civil liberties right now.

And because of supporters like you, we've built the strongest ACLU in our history. But we're going to need every ounce of that strength to keep pace against these coordinated assaults.

So please, make a gift to the ACLU today to help ensure that our legal and advocacy teams across the country don't fall behind in the fight to protect civil liberties in the states.

The road won't be easy. But together, I know we can make our states, and ultimately our country, more equal and just for all.

Sincerely,

Brigitte Amiri
