Dear friend,

This month I joined Jubilee Debt Campaign as the new Executive Director. I'm honoured and excited to start campaigning with you.

Many countries are facing the double-whammy of Covid and the climate emergency, as climate-related disasters are hitting already heavily-indebted countries. Meanwhile in the UK, millions of households have been forced to take on even more debt during the pandemic just to stay afloat and face an avalanche of debt as the government phases out Covid-support over the coming months.

Our demands for sweeping debt cancellation whether for countries in the global South or families in the UK are more relevant and urgent than ever. 

As a campaigner, I have actively challenged the power and politics of inequality and poverty on a wide range of economic justice issues both globally and in the UK. I am passionate about winning systemic change and to do that we need to challenge narratives that erase the politics of empire, colonialism and neoliberalism and we need to build the power of affected communities and support movements for alternatives that democratise power and resources.

Jubilee Debt Campaign is not fighting an isolated struggle. As Audre Lorde famously said: “There is no thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives” and so our fight for debt justice is inextricably connected with our fight for racial justice, climate justice and health justice.

Your support has always been the backbone of our campaigns. When we come together, we know we can take on powerful forces and win huge changes that have a real impact on people's lives.

And we need your help more than ever. If you feel able to, please make a donation to help drive our work forward over these crucial next few months. Anything you give will go to supporting our campaigns for debt justice in the face of the Covid and climate crises.
