Political redistricting experts like the Cook Political Report say I could be in “real trouble,” and National Republicans have added me to their top target list. My friend Debbie Stabenow knows what it’s like to run in a tough race and what’s at stake if we lose the House or the Senate next year.

Here’s what we know so far:

No matter what happens, we’re facing a tougher district. New ratings show our current district is only a D+1—a true toss-up. And a new district may only get more competitive.

Our region has lost population over the last 10 years. Communities in our area have lost population over the past decade. That means no matter which way the lines are drawn, our district will need to expand and include almost 100,000 new voters.

In the roughly 200 days since Democrats have controlled Congress, we’ve already delivered real results for Michigan’s working families. We passed the American Rescue Plan to put money in workers’ pockets and speed up vaccine distribution to end this pandemic. And now, we’re working to rebuild our roads, bridges and water systems to grow our economy and create good-paying jobs.

But the truth is, Michigan is always one of the biggest battleground states, and this is going to be a tough election. We must be ready.
