As the son of a public school teacher and a United Auto Workers member, Mandela has dedicated his life to public service.

Mandela was first elected to the Wisconsin Assembly in 2012, representing his home city of Milwaukee.

While a member of the Assembly, Mandela introduced numerous pieces of legislation, including expanding eligibility for the earned income tax credit, providing free tuition for students at technical colleges, allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to preregister to vote, and decriminalizing marijuana.

Then in 2018, with the help of DFA members, Mandela played a crucial role in defeating Scott Walker and giving Democrats control of the executive branch in Wisconsin.

Following his victory, Mandela became the first Black Lieutenant Governor in Wisconsin history.

As Lieutenant Governor, Mandela has served as chair of the Governor's task force on climate change and helped release over 50 policy recommendations to address climate change.

The bottom line is that Mandela Barnes has the experience needed to bring a new, progressive kind of politics to the United States Senate.

DFA was there in 2018 when we were one of the few organizations that endorsed Mandela Barnes and helped stop Scott Walker’s administration and now we are standing with Mandela again, this time to beat insurrectionist denier and Trump lapdog Senator Ron Johnson or whoever the radical Republicans run in Wisconsin.
