Welcome to Wednesday, July 21st, pawns and kings and queens...

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has chosen five Republican lawmakers to serve on the select committee to investigate the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

A majority of the picks voted to overturn the election that day.

McCarthy chose GOP Representatives Jim Banks (Indiana), Jim Jordan (Ohio), Rodney Davis (Illinois), Kelly Armstrong (North Dakota), and Troy Nehls (Texas) to serve on the committee.

Banks, Jordan, and Nehls were among the 147 Republican lawmakers who voted against certifying the 2020 Electoral College results, despite no evidence of widespread voter fraud or major voting irregularities.

Banks said that he accepted McCarthy’s invitation “because we need leaders who will force the Democrats and the media to answer questions so far ignored.”

** D.C. Circuit Panel Upholds Proxy Voting Rules
------------------------------------------------------------

A three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals released an opinion on Tuesday that rejected the Republican lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of proxy voting in the House.

The panel held that the House's resolution pertained to "internal rules governing the casting of votes" by lawmakers in the chamber. Because the Constitution's Speech or Debate Clause protects the authority of the House and Senate to set their own rules and procedures, proxy voting is immune from judicial review.
