Doddie Weir | Drop-in clinics | Reston Station

Dear John,

It has been another busy few weeks in the Borders and in Westminster.

Last week, I was delighted to get my second dose of the Covid-19 jag at the drop in clinic at Borders Event Centre in Kelso. Over 70,000 Borderers have now had both doses - an amazing achievement!

However, NHS Borders have said that around 5,500 people have not yet come forward, despite being eligible. I would encourage everyone eligible to step forward for their vaccine to maximise the protection for yourself and everyone around you.

Take a look at what else has been going on below. As ever, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.

Kind regards.

Yours sincerely,

John

Last week, during a debate on research into Motor Neurone Disease, I took the opportunity to pay tribute to local campaigner and former rugby star, Doddie Weir.

His work, and that of his foundation, has raised awareness and millions of pounds for research into this dreadful disease.

I used a local drop in clinic to receive my second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. You can too if it has been more than 8 weeks since your first, or if you haven't had any doses at all. This week's drop in clinics are:

21st Volunteer Hall, Galashiels
22nd Borders Event Centre, Kelso
23rd Volunteer Hall, Galashiels

They are open 9.30am-1pm and 1.45pm-5.30pm. More info ** here. ([link removed])

I recently met with the UK Government Minister for Rail, after it came to light that the new £20m Reston Station in Berwickshire may only have 4 trains per day in each direction. This is unacceptable.

This is because LNER are prioritising their long distance trains to stop less often at the expense of smaller stations. Similarly, Scotrail have said they will not provide any services to the station, despite previously committing to doing so.

We need to see an common sense outcome from the rail companies.
