Lee Merritt just announced his week one fundraising totals: Thousands of people from ALL 50 states — plus Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands — pitched in over the course of the last week. In total, they raised $209,629 with an average donation of just $32.
But here’s why YOU should be especially proud, John: together, our community raised $77,855 for Lee from nearly 3,000 individual, small-dollar donations. IN JUST A WEEK.
In addition, Real Justice sent Lee’s campaign a gift of $122,298 — some prior to launch and the rest just this morning.
That is a game-changing amount of money, and we can’t thank you enough.
Now we need to re-center on our OWN fundraising. We went to the mat for Lee and have to make up a lot of ground to keep all our other vital campaigns rolling.
Let us break down why your support means so much. The beginning of a campaign is always the hardest. ESPECIALLY for a first-time candidate like Lee.
He doesn’t have the network that incumbents like Ken Paxton have. And he’s not from a political dynasty like George P. Bush either.
These two Republican opponents are also drowning in corporate cash. In 2021, they’ve raised a combined $4 million, with average contributions of $3,160 and $2,032 respectively. That’s more than a minimum-wage worker in Texas makes in TWO MONTHS.
But this is only one example of the type of opposition our Real Justice candidates face across the country. Backlash to our movement is growing.
Everywhere we look, ultra-wealthy conservatives and racist police groups are mounting massive campaigns to stop our momentum to curb police violence and incarceration.
That’s why we need you now, John. We’ve already achieved so much thanks to your support. What happens next will come down to whether we can rise to the challenges we face. It will only work if we do it together.
We appreciate all that you do. And appreciate all that you’ve done to help our dear friend Lee Merritt.
