Here’s a little background on how we got here: In April, Evergreen laid out a clear roadmap for the Biden administration and Congress to create the Civilian Climate Corps—a federal employment program that would be a force for climate justice and an entry point to lasting union careers in the clean economy.

The CCC can put Americans to work reducing carbon pollution, restoring public lands, and facilitating lasting change in the communities most vulnerable to climate impacts.

The idea is also incredibly popular: According to polling from Data for Progress, 77% of all likely voters, across party lines, support creating a CCC. President Biden included it in his American Jobs Plan. Sen. Ed Markey and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced the Civilian Climate Corps for Jobs and Justice Act in Congress on April 20 (nice). And just in the past week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer endorsed it, and Senate Democrats announced they’re including it in their $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package.

Momentum is higher than it’s ever been, so let’s keep it up.
