Dear John,
No Climate, No Deal.
With President Biden and Congress on the verge of passing a massive investment in our nation's infrastructure, now is the time to go big on climate. We must give it everything we have — and more — to make sure our elected officials know that not acting at the scale and pace the climate crisis demands is simply not an option.
Congress needs to back an infrastructure plan that sufficiently tackles the climate crisis. We need good-paying clean energy jobs. We need investments in community resilience and restoration from climate impacts. We need stronger investments in clean public transportation, affordable EVs, efficient homes and businesses, clean energy, natural resource industries, clean drinking water, all with a focus on rural and burdened communities.
There’s a big deadline tomorrow, so now is the time to tell your representatives that there can be no deal on infrastructure if it doesn't include comprehensive climate investments. Many of the proposals that our political leaders have introduced contain some sort of climate action, but those are just the floor — not the ceiling. This is now or never to pass bold legislation to truly address the climate crisis.
We need climate action included in BOTH the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package that some members of our federal delegation are backing AND the $3.5 trillion dollar reconciliation package. We can’t fully protect Maine communities from climate change impacts if Congress won’t help us.
Thank you in advance for taking action,
Abbie
