Hi John --
Florida Senator Marco Rubio has proven time and again that he is spineless in the face of the racist vitriol that regularly spills out from his Republican colleagues on Capitol Hill. That's why we're so excited to see a woman of color, Rep. Val Demings, running to replace Rubio in one of the most diverse states in the country.
When it comes to issues of race in America, voting rights are at the top of the list. Recently, Rep. Demings spoke candidly about Republican obstruction in Washington: “Voting rights are under attack. Authoritarian impulses threaten the Constitution and the freedoms that generations of Americans have died to protect.”
But she also had a direct message to Democrats in the Senate: “Voters didn't elect us to do nothing and blame the Senate filibuster. Get rid of it.”
We couldn't agree more, John. While some Democratic Senators are focused on “precedent,” Republicans are doing everything they can to block Biden's agenda. Mitch McConnell even promised he'd block any Supreme Court nomination Biden makes if the GOP takes back the Senate.
The American people cannot wait any longer to protect our voting rights, build back American infrastructure, and start healing our country from the destruction of the Trump years. Please, let us know your thoughts on the filibuster and help us send a message to Congress now:
Do you agree with Val Demings that Democrats should abolish the Jim Crow filibuster?
