John,
Your voice and your vote are
critical to the future of our city, and I hope I can count on your
support for my re-election this November 5th. While it may feel quiet
compared to last year’s election, San Franciscans are already voting
by absentee ballot, and Election Day is fast approaching.
We are working hard every day to make a real difference on
the challenges facing our city and residents, and while we have made
significant progress after just one year in office, I’m
confident that with your support on November 5th, we can accomplish so
much more over the next four years. Will
you join me?
Since my election last year we have
moved quickly to help those suffering on our streets, create housing
for those struggling to afford to stay in our city, stepped up police
patrols to ensure people feel safe in their neighborhoods, and added
resources to help keep our streets and public spaces clean and
inviting.
In just one year we’ve:
- Helped
2,146 people leave homelessness – the most people our City has ever
helped out of homelessness, and made significant progress toward
opening 1,000 new homeless shelter beds by 2020, with 346 new beds
opened and 450 under construction or in the pipeline, the largest
single bed expansion in 30 years.
- Focused
mental health initiatives on the individuals experiencing homelessness
who are also suffering from both serious mental illness and substance
use disorders, by doubling the number of psychiatric beds at the
Hummingbird Place Navigation Center and expanding and strengthening
our conservatorship laws to require treatment for those suffering from
severe mental illness and addiction on the
streets.
- Placed a
$600 million affordable housing bond on this November’s ballot,
funding thousands of units of affordable housing for seniors,
veterans, public housing, and low-income and middle-income families,
and identifying over $1 billion to fund affordable housing since
taking office.
- Cleared
the backlog of 900 applications for new rent-controlled Accessory
Dwelling Units (ADUs or in-laws), cutting the red tape that was
slowing down the addition of these new housing
units.
- Directed
the SFPD to step up enforcement against drug dealing in the
Tenderloin, Mid-Market, and South of Market, so families in these
neighborhoods finally feel that they have rights to safe streets; and
established a four-year strategic plan that will deploy 250 additional
police officers to the streets by 2022 to address violent crime and
property crime.
- Fought
for record investments in quality-of-life needs, including more police
foot patrol officers, 44 new neighborhood street cleaners across the
city, five new staffed Pit Stop bathrooms, and $6 million for a
dedicated street medicine team to help people suffering from addiction
on the streets.
- Instituted a ‘quick-build’ policy to make immediate changes to
dangerous corridors, including along Townsend Street, Taylor Street,
and 6th Street, to protect pedestrians and bicyclists; and creating 20
miles of new, connected bike lanes across the City, moving San
Francisco closer to achieving climate goals, and Vision Zero goals to
eliminate traffic fatalities by 2024.
There is still much work to be done, but with
your support I know that we can continue to make a difference for
ALL San
Franciscans.
I respectfully ask for your vote on
November 5th.
Sincerely,
Mayor London Breed
P.S. Early voting is open at the
