Earlier this week, nearly all Texas Democrats flew to Washington DC to prevent the Texas House from achieving quorum and allowing Republicans to pass sweeping voter suppression legislation.

We are incredibly grateful for the work of these brave lawmakers, but such drastic measures should not have to occur to guarantee people the right to vote.

We have to restore federal protections to guarantee Americans in every state the most fundamental element of our democracy — which is why we are joining with other organizations to thank Texas Democrats and urge Congress to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
