Friend,

Nine years ago today, an outing to Century 16 movie theater in Aurora turned into a tragedy. 12 Coloradans lost their lives, and dozens were injured because of gun violence. Our tight-knit community became known as the site of an unspeakable and heinous tragedy.

Too many times since that day, our nation has woken up in similar pain. But we don't have to live this way. The answer to our country's gun violence problem is the same today as it was nine years ago: common-sense gun safety legislation that is supported by the vast majority of Americans.

The House has already taken action by passing bills to expand background checks for gun sales and close the Charleston loophole. If the Senate follows our lead, we can end the gun lobby's stronghold on some of the top leaders in our government. We can keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them. We can keep our communities safe.

I ran for Congress to end the gun violence epidemic that plagues our nation and prevent shootings like the ones we've seen in Aurora, Columbine, Boulder, and across the country. I will keep working to fulfill that promise until no one in this country has to mourn their colleague, friend, or family member in a gun-related tragedy.

This is one of the causes of our lifetimes, and I invite you to join me in this critical work. If you support life-saving gun violence prevention legislation, sign on to the petition now.
