An Update on DACA
On July 16, 2021, a Federal District Court judge in Texas issued a ruling in Texas v. U.S. limiting the DACA program and declaring it unlawful. Effective immediately, the court's decision prohibits USCIS from approving any new DACA applications. While new applications will no longer be approved, renewals will continue to move forward. It is important to note that people who currently have DACA will keep their protections, and that pending renewal applications will be processed normally.
We remain committed to supporting our partners in the fight to protect DACA. “It is as important now as ever that we stand in our power and remind ourselves of our collective resilience. DACA is and will continue to be a testament to the strength and political power our communities have built up over years of organizing for justice. We have fought back politically motivated attempts to end it before and prevailed. We cannot and will not let up in our fight now.” - NILC’s statement from Avideh Moussavian, Director of Federal Advocacy at NILC.
