** Today we are sharing an important update and a time-sensitive action ([link removed])
from the Stop Danskammer Coalition ([link removed]) !

------------------------------------------------------------

Update:

On June 30th, DEC announced a 60-day public comment period on a draft air permit for Danskammer fracked gas power plant’s expansion project and said the proposal appears to be “inconsistent with or would interfere with the attainment of the Statewide GHG [greenhouse gas] emission limits” established in the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA).
In order to be built and operate, the Danskammer expansion would need two permits, and we have a chance right now to stop the first one: the Title V Air Permit.

The DEC is accepting public comments about the Title V Air Permit until August 29, 2021. Even if you have submitted comments opposing the Danskammer fracked gas plant before, please add a personalized intro paragraph and send this new comment by August 29 ([link removed]) !

** Take Action:
The DEC wants to hear from us about this, and they’ve even specified the exact points we should comment on!

COMMENT ([link removed]) AND TELL DEC TO DENY DANSKAMMER AN AIR PERMIT!

CLICK HERE ([link removed]) to tell DEC that:
* Danskammer would increase greenhouse gas emissions in New York State, and would be inconsistent with and interfere with the attainment of the goals of the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA) and New York’s climate policy.

* Danskammer is not needed to ensure reliable electricity. There is ample existing and proposed capacity in the form of solar, wind, transmission and battery storage to meet New York’s electricity demand for the foreseeable future.

* There is no mitigating Danskammer’s greenhouse gas emissions. The CLCPA does not allow power generators to use emissions offsets. The only appropriate action is to terminate plans for this fossil fuel plant and pursue renewable energy or battery storage instead. Deny the Title V Air Permit.

Please comment as soon as you can, and share the request for comments throughout your networks! The disproportionate impacts Danskammer would impose on marginalized communities in the City of Newburgh are wholly unjustifiable. Hudson Valley air quality has suffered enough. Let's stop Danskammer!

In gratitude,

P.S. Remember, Danskammer won't be approved unless the DEC issues it an air permit under Title V of the Clean Air Act. Submit a public comment ([link removed]) asking the DEC to deny Danskammer's permit to pollute by August 29, 2021.

This is the existing Danskammer Generating Station in the Town of Newburgh.
The expanded Danskammer plant would increase GHG emissions by up to 4000% ([link removed]) .
