John, Last month, the Supreme Court’s conservative majority, with three new Trump appointees, dealt a devastating blow to voting rights in the United States. In its ruling in Brnovich v. DNC, upholding voter suppression laws in Arizona, the Court undermined a key provision of the landmark Voting Rights Act and, in doing so, further threatened the voting rights of millions of Americans, particularly Black and Brown Americans. This new attack on voting rights coming from the nation’s highest court has occurred as Republican legislators attempt to pass nearly 400 bills to restrict voting across the country. “It is difficult to fathom that the U.S. Supreme Court, which is bound by both duty and the Constitution to administer equal justice under law, has done more to set voting rights back than any other actor in the last decade,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in response to the Court’s decision. Sign if you agree: To protect our constitutional right to vote, we must expand the Supreme Court. Members of the House and Senate have already introduced legislation to do just that: the Judiciary Act of 2021. We must ensure that it passes. Adding four seats to the Supreme Court will reflect the growth of the judiciary over the past 150 years, restore legitimacy and balance to the Court, protect our democracy, and secure the rights of the American people. Sign the petition: Pass the Judiciary Act and expand the Supreme Court NOW to protect our right to vote before it’s too late. In solidarity, Free Speech For People |
