John -- Our newest addition to the 2022 slate, Brittany Ramos DeBarros is the organizer, advocate, and fighter we need, and Brand New Congress is thrilled to stand in her corner!
Brittany Ramos DeBarros is a proud Afro-Latina Staten Islander, U.S. Army Veteran and community organizer running for Congress in New York’s 11th District.
Brittany comes from a military family. Like so many, her family worked hard, but still struggled to make ends meet. They almost lost their home more than once, at times relying on their local church community to help them get by.
Brittany knew something was wrong with a system where people working multiple jobs still can’t stay above water.
Through an Army scholarship, Brittany attended the University of Miami. By graduation she had become an Army officer and platoon leader responsible for 40 lives, eventually receiving orders to deploy to Afghanistan.
After her service, Brittany and her husband settled in Staten Island and immediately fell in love with the diverse, inclusive and eclectic community that makes up NY-11.
Since her return from Afghanistan, Brittany has become a vocal anti-war activist, organizing around issues such as veterans’ resources, healthcare, and housing.
Now Brittany is running for Congress to end the cycle of broken promises from the leaders and systems that continue to hurt our communities.
In her own words:
Brittany’s running an unbought, unbossed and unafraid campaign that calls for Medicare for All, passing a Green New Deal, cancelling ALL student loan and medical debt, and jobs and housing as human rights.
