Dear Friend,
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) became a law 25 years ago, providing crucial protections for women and survivors of domestic violence. The legislation made it possible for courts to address violence inflicted upon people at home and in public. VAWA is now up for reauthorization but is being held up in the Senate. Please join us in asking your senators to vote for this important bill.
Take Action

Every time VAWA faces expiration, we must reauthorize it and expand its protections, to account for shortcomings in its previous versions. This past April, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019 (H.R. 1585) was passed in the House. If signed into law, this iteration of VAWA will:
- Incorporate best practices for survivors of domestic violence who are seeking protection from intimate partner violence, practices that include lessening survivors' economic difficulties by providing them access to housing and employment
- Hold predators who prey on Native American women accountable
- Restrict adjudicated abusers and stalkers' access to firearms
Domestic violence claims numerous lives every year. Ignoring VAWA and proposed improvements to the legislation would be detrimental to communities around the country. Please contact your senators today.
Thank you,
Sandy Ovalle
