Here's some not so breaking news: Republicans are terrified.
In 2018, Georgia governor Brian Kemp won his election by less than 2 points after he purged the voter rolls. Then in 2020, Democratic voter turnout in Georgia soared (thank you Stacey Abrams!), ultimately flipping the state blue and ousting both of its GOP Senators. Now with Kemp up for reelection and Republican power dwindling, the party is ramping up their efforts to defend whatever power they have left.
In the first six months of 2021 alone, a Georgia based PAC named Stop Stacey reportedly raised over $240,000. While Abrams has publicly expressed interest in a rematch, she hasn't officially announced whether she is running again. Stop Stacey was formed by Kemp allies early this year to discourage her from running -- a sign of deep concern among Republicans about the threat Abrams poses to Kemp.
Abrams was a deciding force in the 2020 elections. And now with the GOP preparing to pounce, Democrats need to come together to support her run against the GOP's efforts to tear her down.
