Friends,

For our intro this week, read this message from Adriene in the Allston-Brighton Node on Indigenous Peoples Day:

"As Indigenous Peoples Day (known in the City of Boston as Columbus Day) approaches, I’d like to invite you to consider the intersections of the climate movement and the indigenous rights movement. In order for environmental justice to be truly successful, we must acknowledge how environmental injustice uniquely affects Native peoples with regard to their sovereignty and legal rights.

The Massachusetts Indigenous Peoples Day Coalition is calling for individuals to submit written testimony in support of a statewide Indigenous Peoples Day bill. Renaming/replacing Columbus Day as a holiday helps to dispel the settler colonialist myths about U.S. history and draw attention to current challenges faced by Native communities.
