** Manchin confirms support for Stone-Manning at BLM

Senator Joe Manchin, the chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said on Monday he will vote to confirm Tracy Stone-Manning ([link removed]) , President Biden's nominee to run the Bureau of Land Management. The committee scheduled a vote on Stone-Manning's nomination for Thursday, which appears likely to result in a 10-10 tie.

Republicans, led by Montana Senator Steve Daines, have attacked Stone-Manning ([link removed]) for her involvement with a tree-spiking case in 1989, in which Stone-Manning testified against two perpetrators. Stone-Manning's colleagues, including her former boss, Montana Senator Jon Tester, have described the attacks as a smear campaign driven by political retribution.

"I have worked with this woman very, very closely," Tester said ([link removed]) . "She’s more solid than a lot of the people that are attacking her."

If the Thursday committee vote results in a deadlock, the full Senate would be able to consider Stone-Manning's nomination, with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking a tie in the event of a 50-50 split on the Senate floor.
