Day of action success!
councillors

On *Wednesday 14 July Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire Police, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue,  Nottingham City Homes and Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing Association* joined together to tackle the issues that you have said are a problem in your neighbourhood.

We *weeded, swept, litter-picked, visited private rented properties, spoke to residents about issues, and carried out 10 fire safety checks* before the team had to leave to attend an emergency.

We also spoke to *parents about inconsiderate parking and engine idling around Whitemoor Academy*, before ending the day with activities for children at the MUGA on Riber Crescent accompanied by information stalls on health, employment, housing and fire safety.

*We will continue to work together to improve the issues that are important to you*. For further information or to suggest any other ideas or locations for the next Day of Action please contact Leigh Plant, Neighbourhood Development Officer on 07701 049987 or any of the Councillors.

Food for all in Basford

food bank

*Mesopotamia [ [link removed] ], a local charity, have been delivering food parcels on a weekly basis for up to 280 people in need*.

It is the time of volunteers and the generosity of donations of food items that enables this to happen every Saturday. Rachel Miller, Founder/director says “the funding from the ward Councillors contributed to building our Foodbank premises. This has enabled us to play a vital role in supporting our local community through difficult times”

*If you would like to volunteer there are roles from helping to sort out food right through to making deliveries. Please telephone 0115 9780 444 [ tel:01159780444 ] for further information.*

You said, we did

You told us that you would like to see* improved cycling facilities* across Basford Ward.

New cycle paths are being designed for the area around Lincoln Street and Church Lane along with improvements to path and cycle way from Heathfield Road to Valley Road.

We will be consulting on these designs soon. If you would like to be involved in the consultation, please contact your local Councillors.  [ [link removed] ]

A farewell, but not goodbye to park ranger John

basford

*Many of you will know John, the former Park Warden at Vernon Park who retired last year in the middle of the pandemic. *

John is very passionate about Nottingham Parks and green spaces and has spent many hours improving them in his own time in addition to his paid duties. *One of these was revitalising the Friends of Vernon Park group who established the woodland walk* in the corner of the park and have spent many hours keeping the park and the River Leen clean and tidy.

Covid restrictions meant we couldn’t celebrate his time with Nottingham City Council when he left, but earlier this month *Basford Ward Councillors surprised him with a ‘brunch in the park’ to thank him for his hard work and dedication*. You will still be able to see John out and about with the Friends group who meet on the second Saturday of every month.
