NCH is happy to be spearheading Bring America Home Now: A Comprehensive Grassroots Campaign to End Homelessness in the U.S. Led by people who have themselves experienced homelessness, we will focus on the passage of federal legislation aimed at addressing the interconnected solutions to the decades-long epidemic of homelessness in the United States. It’s past time to connect the dots and ensure policy reflects the needs of our communities. The campaign focuses on 5 major policy areas:
The BAHN campaign kicked off with a mid June event. The entire video is posted on YouTube with a link from the new BAHN website. There were some really good (and short) talks about homelessness. Check them out.
In Case You Missed It: Check out our Campaign Launch for Bring America Home Now We heard from people who have experienced homelessness, national advocates, and federal legislators about how this campaign is a crucial stepping stone for tangible change. We can do more for our communities if we work together. Featured Speaker: Mayor Dennis Kucinich
His words, "We have to see people as they are....Recognize they are also us", have weight and reflect the character of this campaign. A movement for tangible change. Listen now to his speech and Learn more at: https://bringamericahomenow.org
The National Coalition for the Homeless is circulating a sign on letter for local, state or national advocacy groups to send to the Mayor of Austin opposing the recently passed Proposition B which forces the city to criminalize those living outside. If you would like a copy of the letter so that your group can sign on e-mail [email protected].
Livable Incomes-- Will the 81 Million People that Voted for President Biden See a Return on their Investment?
The country may be well on its way to finally getting past a global pandemic and its tragic effects. Health, education, and welfare has consumed our psyche like no other subject in our lifetime. Over 600,000 people in America have lost their lives to COVID-19, with millions more becoming infected and feeling the effects for the rest of their natural life. Children have suffered either adjusting to online learning or not having the ability to learn anything at all due to lack of educational and broadband infrastructure.
Millions of jobs lost, businesses closed, and lack of compassion for those who are not able to pay rent or buy food. There have been some strides made; the CARES ACT, and the American Rescue Plan. We are grateful for the legislation that has become law. It came with a price. Because of rich legislators not getting what they wanted, the American people suffered far too long than they had too. That struggle will continue now that 25 states have decided to end federal emergency unemployment assistance. Some lawmakers act like the pandemic is over, well, it’s not. The effects of COVID will last for generations, well past their time being in power and control. Time for the people to take back control, here’s how: The National Coalition for the Homeless has been closely monitoring federal legislation that can potentially become law. The list below are bills we encourage you to follow and call your federal elected officials to pass to benefit the American people.
Ending Homelessness Act of 2021 R. 3083 Family Stability and Opportunity Vouchers Act R. 8065 Guaranteed Income Pilot Program R. 1280 George Floyd Justice and Policing Act R. 542 Save Education Jobs Act R. 3 Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Cost Now Act While the issues in America are well documented, they have only become magnified during the 21st century. Despite the constant conversation that takes place regarding the middle class, the reality is there are only two classes: rich vs poor. Things we need to survive has risen such as food, gas, shelter, and health care. Wages need to also go up along with those things, but they have remained in starvation status.
President Biden is the old school politician where business was conducted in a bi-partisan matter. Those days may be behind us and America is ready to cash the check they received when this administration and Congress took office in January 2021.
You can put pressure on Congress and the president by considering becoming an individual or organizational member of the National Coalition for the Homeless.
Please join us for our National Town Hall meeting every third Thursday of the Month at 3pm EST. Visit our website at www.nationalhomeless.org or email Kelvin Lassiter, Policy Analyst at [email protected] for more details

It’s Child Tax Day! Historically the legislative policy in question was structured as the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997, proposing a $400 credit was introduced for each child under age 17. This law has been amended several times over the years, including an increase to a maximum benefit of $2,000 per child in 2017. This increase is due to expire at the end of 2025.
