1619 Project Will Boost Socialist Teaching in Schools – In 2019, Hannah-Jones told Vox founder Ezra Klein that “if you want to see the most equal, multiracial, it’s not a democracy, but the most equal multiracial country in our hemisphere, it would be Cuba. … Cuba has the least inequality between black and white people of any place in the hemisphere.” She added for emphasis: “In places that are biracial countries, Cuba actually has the least inequality and that’s largely due to socialism.” This is all untrue, of course. A country that is now largely black or mixed-race has been ruled by a small, white elite since 1959—ironically when it replaced the mixed-race dictator Fulgencio Batista. If it sounds like Hannah-Jones’s language comes straight from the propaganda machine of Havana’s communists, that’s because it is. She traveled there in 2008, and upon her return set to write paeans to the revolution that veered between puffery and Orwellianisms. Heritage expert: Mike Gonzalez

Texas Democrats' outrageous claims about election reforms have no connection to reality – Trying to compare a segregationist policy that kept Black Americans out of a public library in 1939 to an election bill that tries to protect the security and integrity of the election process for all voters and which has provisions that voters – including Black voters – support falls completely flat. It is preposterous to equate the horrific segregationist rules of the old South to a law requiring someone to have a valid excuse like sickness or disability to use an absentee ballot, or requiring someone to write in the serial number of their free state voter ID card or the last four digits of their Social Security number to authenticate their identity when they request an absentee ballot. Not only do the American people as a whole know that, but I have no doubt that the voters of Texas do, too.
The Big Lie about Texas and other states' election reforms  – The Texas bill makes it clear that except for watching a voter cast his or her ballot, observers "may not be denied free movement where election activity is occurring" and are "entitled to sit or stand near enough to see and hear the activity." Mind you, the observers can’t interfere in the election process and can be ejected if they "commit a breach of the peace or a violation of law." But election officials can’t refuse to give observers the access to which they are entitled under the law. This not discriminatory and not Jim Crow; it is good government. Biden says what the states are doing is "pernicious." No, what is pernicious are the outrageous lies that he and other liberals are spreading about common-sense election reforms sponsored by state legislators who are trying their best to protect the integrity of the franchise for all Americans.  Heritage expert: Hans von Spakovsky

Education Department Walking Back CRT-Influenced Grant Proposal, a Win for Parents – This proposed rule would have pushed teachers to treat students differently based on skin color. The department should not fund programs that teach children that anyone should be judged, stereotyped, or denounced based on their skin color or origin of ethnicity, as critical race theory does. Even encouraging grant applications to teach revisionist views of American history, which are already contested by renowned historians across the political spectrum, does a disservice to parents and students. Parents should carefully look at proposed projects in public schools that adhere to the principles of critical race theory, while masquerading as lessons that incorporate ‘racially, ethnically, culturally or linguistically diverse perspectives.’ Americans must remain on guard. While this does look like the Biden administration is trying to find a face-saving way to reverse course, it is well known that this administration is deeply committed to critical race theory. President Biden’s very first act was to sign an executive order committing all corners of his administration to racial-conscious policies, contravening the letter and spirit of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Heritage experts: Mike Gonzalez and Jonathan Butcher

It’s Time to Hold Biden Accountable for Border Crisis  It’s still hard to believe the only person in this administration to call this a ‘crisis’ is Press Secretary Jen Psaki, and even then, only by accident. This unprecedented border crisis should be a national embarrassment, but the Biden administration is simply not interested in solving the crisis, because they created the crisis. The utter inaction after months of these crisis numbers on our southern border should leave Americans with no uncertainty: the Biden administration either sees a perceived political benefit in this crisis, or the president is too intimidated to stand up to his radical, open-borders base. Either way, it’s a bad sign for all of us. But Americans should not accept the Biden administration’s dereliction of duty. Any American outraged and worried by this self-imposed crisis should put pressure on his or her representatives at every level of government every day until change happens. They should not be afraid to speak out and stand up for what makes our nation great. The Biden administration is overseeing this crisis hoping the American people eventually lose interest and move on. It’s time to show them how wrong that calculation is. Heritage expert: Lora Ries

U.S., allies accuse China of hacking Microsoft and condoning other cyberattacks – When it comes to China, though, this administration’s penalties have been found wanting. hina should be receiving the same stern warnings that President Biden has outlined against Vladimir Putin and Russia of possible offensive cyber reprisals or other sanctions as it relates to the Microsoft Exchange server attacks this year and the slew of economic espionage, intellectual property theft, and cyberattacks by China to the United States and our allies. Russian economic sanctions have had a limited impact on their decision-making calculus of continuing perverse cyber activity, but in the case of China, working with our allied partners to coordinate actionable responses beyond attribution must be the next steps. There are not easy solutions or one-stop shop fixes to our current and future cyber woes. Cyber warfare, espionage, and criminal activity have given even resource limited foes the capacity to equalize capabilities against the U.S. As we move further into the digital battlefield space, and our number one national security threat, China, it is time to take those kid gloves off. Heritage expert: Dustin Carmack

Why America Needs a Grand Strategy – Grand strategy in the Anglo-American historical tradition is not a panacea. International relations are always riven with uncertainty and difficult decisions. There will always be a Vietnam or a September 11. But we can do better than resign ourselves to simply muddling through from crisis to crisis. If we develop a strategy rooted in the understanding that a sovereign America is an indispensable actor on the world stage, and challenge our adversaries with strategic cooperation, the world — particularly China — will be put on notice. Heritage expert: Sec. A Rancher’s Life on the U.S.-Mexico Border – John Ladd, whose family has had a ranch adjoining the U.S.-Mexico border for more than 120 years, says that illegal immigrants are telling him that President Joe Biden’s immigration policy is an invitation for invited them to come. For Ladd, the impact has been devastating. Here’s what he’s seen—and why he is concerned for the future of the country. Heritage expert: Lora Ries

European Support For The Iran Deal Is Part Of Problem  There is a problem with all the Franco-German strategic balancing and economic engagement. None of it takes into account the deep flaws of the Iran Deal, which demonstrably was useless in restraining Iran’s nuclear ambitions or Tehran’s destabilizing activities. The consensus answer seems to be, “Yes, the deal will likely fail in the end, but it will give us time to prepare a response, and since we have a multilateral approach there will be a common and coordinated response.” That is nonsense logic. The reality is the Biden administration looks to the Iran Deal as a way to disengage from the Middle East. Unfortunately, this will allow China and Russia to increase their meddling in the region. This will leave Europe saddled with all the negative consequences of living in a more volatile, dangerous, and worrisome neighborhood. The worst thing that could happen to Europe is if Berlin and Paris get exactly what they ask for. Heritage expert: James Carafano
