Dear friend,
Last year, 93,000 people died from drug overdoses.
That's a devastatingly high number -- and a new record for our country. This staggering number of deaths was due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic taking resources away from efforts to stop the opioid crisis, as well as the continued spread of the synthetic opioid fentanyl, a dangerous and deadly drug.
It's clear that the opioid crisis is far from over. In fact, we need to be more committed than ever to tackling this crisis. Each day about two people die of an opioid-related overdose in Washington, and thousands more struggle with addiction. We can never get the lives we've lost back, but we can prevent future tragedies by taking meaningful action. This issue has impacted far too many families.
Will you join me in the fight to combat the opioid crisis? Add your name to recommit to ending this crisis once and for all.

I'm proud to have worked on several pieces of legislation to address the opioid crisis. My colleagues and I have written bills to fund recovery centers, limit the use of opioids in hospitals, address the shortage of substance use disorder professionals, and much more.
The work must continue. I'm committed to doing everything I can to combat this grave public health crisis, and I hope you will join me in the fight.
