Sounds of gunshots rang out in Nationals Park in Washington, DC on Saturday night and throngs of people flooded the aisles to reach safety. America’s pastime – gun violence – had interrupted America’s game, but this headline breaking shooting was a small fraction of the violence our country saw this weekend.
Mere miles away, a six-year-old girl was shot and killed and five others were injured.
In Philadelphia, three people were shot dead and over 30 others were injured.
In Chicago, 11 people were shot and killed and over 50 others were injured.
This isn’t just about the headlines, John, and it’s not a game. This is about a nation – our nation – that has been unceasingly plagued by gun violence for far too long. This is about honoring victims and their families with action that will save others from tragedy. And right now, I’m counting on you to do just that:

Common sense gun laws save lives. Background checks save lives. The Senate can pass lifesaving legislation right now, but for four months they have failed to take action. And, John – I’m done waiting. The longer we wait, the more lives we will lose to this despicable epidemic. And with 2021 already on track to be the deadliest year for gun violence in recent memory, it has never been more important to take immediate action.
