BREAKING: Texas Democrats Stand Up for Our Democracy

Texas Democrats just took a stand to stop GOP-led voter suppression. Now, we're counting on 5,000 of our top supporters to join them. Will you call on Congress to pass federal voting rights legislation before our petition closes at midnight tonight?

The GOP has been leading an all-out assault on our democracy to make it harder for Americans to vote. They've purged voter rolls, gerrymandered swing districts, put burdensome ID laws in place, and Georgia Republicans have even made it illegal to hand out water in long voting lines.

Now, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is at it again: He just called a special legislative session to ram through the GOP's latest voter suppression bill – but this time it won't pass. That's because Texas Democrats protested the bill, broke quorum, and headed straight to Washington, D.C., to convince Congress to federally protect voting rights for all Americans.

Congress has the chance to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to ensure that every American has easy, equitable access to the ballot box – but the bills are facing fierce pushback by GOP senators who know that their power depends on voter suppression.

As a Civic Action supporter, we know that you'll agree: Just as our economy is stronger when everyone can participate in it, so is our democracy. We need 5,000 supporters to join Texas Democrats in demanding that Congress protect our voting rights. Will you add your name before our petition closes at midnight tonight?

Texas Democrats are right: Every American deserves fair, easy access to the ballot box, and these GOP suppression tactics are an attempt to stop voters – especially people of color – from exercising their fundamental right.

After generations of disenfranchisement, inclusion doesn't just happen naturally in our democracy. We need to make an active effort to ensure that everyone has the right to vote – and that means we need all hands on deck to defend our fundamental right to access the ballot right now.

Our democracy is on the line here, John. The stakes are so high that we've set one of our most ambitious goals yet: We need to get 5,000 signatures on our petition by midnight tonight. It won't be easy – so we're counting on you to add your name now to stand with Texas Democrats and convince Congress to protect voting rights.

The For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act are no-brainer steps toward a stronger democracy – one where every American is included. We hope we can count on your signature today.

Thank you,
