Dear John,

Health Affairs is proud to announce that its Journal Impact Factor score increased to 6.301 for 2020!
Language Barriers And Health Care Use
For a study in the July issue of Health Affairs, Jessica Himmelstein and coauthors examined the influence of English language barriers on health care use by Hispanic and non-Hispanic adults.

They found that Hispanic adults with limited English proficiency reported the lowest expenditures for every type of health service, lower visit rates, and fewer inpatient days and filled prescriptions than both Hispanic and non-Hispanic adults who were English proficient.

Despite legislative and regulatory changes intended to bolster the health rights of those with limited English proficiency, the observed gap in use of health care persisted between 1999 and 2018, indicating an unremitting problem of access.

Today on Health Affairs Blog, T. Joseph Mattingly II and Ge Bai discuss the recent lawsuit filed by the National Community Pharmacists Association against the US Department of Health and Human Services.
