The Latest Research, Commentary, And News From Health Affairs

Monday, July 19, 2021

Dear John,

Health Affairs is proud to announce that its Journal Impact Factor score
increased to 6.301 for 2020!

Language Barriers And Health Care Use

For a study in the July issue of Health Affairs, Jessica Himmelstein and
coauthors examined the influence of English language
barriers
on health care use

by Hispanic and non-Hispanic adults.

They found that Hispanic adults with limited English proficiency
reported the lowest expenditures for every type of health service, lower
visit rates, and fewer inpatient days and filled prescriptions than both
Hispanic and non-Hispanic adults who were English proficient.

Despite legislative and regulatory changes intended to bolster the
health rights of those with limited English proficiency, the observed
gap in use of health care persisted between 1999 and 2018, indicating an
unremitting problem of access.

Today on Health Affairs Blog, T. Joseph Mattingly II and Ge Bai discuss
the recent lawsuit

filed by the National Community Pharmacists Association against the US
Department of Health and Human Services.

**Health Affairs'**  Impact Factor Rises to Its Highest Ever Score
of 6.301

Health Affairs' continued leadership in the field of health policy is
validated by its recent increase in Journal Impact Factor score of 6.301
for 2020, up almost a full point from 2019. This places

**Health Affairs** in the top tier of journals in two
categories-Health Policy and Services and Health Care Sciences and
Services-according to Clarivate's just released 2020 Journal
Citation Reports® (JCR). The JCR calculates citations in the academic
literature for journals as a measure of influence and impact.

In addition, Clarivate launched a new metric, the Journal Citation
Indicator (JCI). Health Affairs ranked #2 out of 112 journals in Health
Policy and Services and #2 out of 150 journals in Health Care Sciences
and Services for the JCI, with a score of 2.32.
