DO NOT FORWARD THIS E-MAIL OR MAKE COPIES

It is critically important to respond in a timely fashion to these alerts because interest in news stories, editorials, etc., quickly fades in just a matter of days.

FYI: You don't necessarily need a subscription to read articles targeted by our Letter Requests. Many newspapers allow a limited number of free visits each month to their pages.

(1) Please respond to this absurd opinion piece that shows the author to be out of touch with the facts, "Worried about illegal immigration? Create more legal immigrants. "

The headline couldn't be more misleading because we've known for years that higher legal immigration levels create more illegal immigration. Why? Because illegal aliens know they can find ways to link themselves to relatives here legally.

Here are a few other points to consider:

1. The only decrease of legal immigration during Trump's time in office was during the pandemic (and due to the pandemic). Obama had a lower year of immigration than Trump did (again, aside from covid when every country was shutting its borders).

2. Our labor force participation rate is as low as it was in the mid-1970s. We don't need more labor.

3. It is profoundly disturbing that this writer views passing amnesty and another immigration increase as Congress' "duty." The voters have rejected it time and time again, and it is the exact opposite of what Barbara Jordan and the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform recommended.

Finally, we find the last line of this piece to be a real knee-slapper: "Its been easier to keep the door closed." Really?

Does this writer see the 1990 major increase in legal immigration coupled with looking the other way at illegal immigration since 1986 as meeting her definition of a "closed door?"

(5) Please - when appropriate - include in any of your letters to newspapers the "report cards" for your members of Congress provided by NumbersUSA:

Congressional staffers each day go through newspapers looking for references to their bosses; the greater the exposure given to the voting records (good as well as bad) of these legislators the more these individuals will feel our eyes on the back of their necks, watching every move they make.

(6) - This is important - These requests present our writers with an opportunity to address their concerns from their own perspective. We want to emphasize that they are intended for participants in this program, plus a few friends, and not for wide distribution. So, please refrain from cc:ing us on your letters-to-the-editor and from talking about the program in public forums.
