Last week, automatic payments began to be distributed to American families as a part of the Child Tax Credit.

Parents are facing substantial expenses in the wake of the pandemic — from putting food on the table and paying for diapers, to the rising costs of healthcare and childcare.

That’s why we passed the American Rescue Plan, which includes the Child Tax Credit — a financial lifeline for working families that will reduce child poverty by 55% in just this year alone. Most families will start receiving monthly automatic payments of up to $250 or $300 for each child up to the age of 17.

Nearly five million children will be lifted out of poverty because of this policy. That’s the power our Democratic majorities have when we work alongside the Biden administration to deliver for working families.

Just imagine what else we can do when we cut through the noise and Republican obstruction in Washington? This is just the beginning of our work for the American people, and I’m ready to do whatever it takes to deliver relief where it’s needed.

Passing the Child Tax Credit was a historic victory for working families, but I’ll need your help to continue the fight to advance our progressive values. Will you chip in to support our work in Congress, protect our narrow majorities, and help us continue to deliver for the American people?
