Folks,

You know the game plan by now: Republicans are furiously passing bills to restrict voting in virtually every state that they control. They are cracking down on vote-by-mail, early voting, and implementing ever more restrictive voter ID laws.

And the bad news is, they are succeeding.

But last week, Texas Democrats underscored the need for federal voting rights legislation. They left the state and risked arrest in order to deny Republicans a quorum to pass discriminatory bills that would not just make it harder to vote, but also make it harder to get an abortion, to restrict transgender rights, and much more.

The Texas Democrats came to Washington to demand congressional action to protect voting rights at the federal level. I stand with them.

The American people did not volunteer, donate, and turn out in record-breaking numbers to vote in our Democratic majorities just for Mitch McConnell to hold veto power over any ambitious legislation with the filibuster.

It’s time to abolish the filibuster, an undemocratic and arcane Senate rule that McConnell has abused to grind Senate work to a halt. We must finally take action to end the assault on the Voting Rights Act that has been occurring for nearly a decade.

Add your name to my petition demanding my Senate colleagues eliminate the filibuster and stop Republicans from abusing it to block progress. We can’t allow McConnell and the Republican minority to continue abusing it to stop federal voting rights legislation.

Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans know that if they continue to block debate, block negotiation, and block a vote on voting rights legislation, GOP legislators across the country will do their dirty work for them. Enough is enough.

It’s time for the Senate rules to serve the American people, not cynical, self-interested politicians.

Thank you, as always, for taking action.
