News from Representative Allred

July 19, 2021

Dear John,

As the father of two young boys, I know how expensive it is and how hard it can be to balance work and raising a family. That’s why I was proud to vote to improve and expand the Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan this year. Payments started going out on July 15 and I want to hear how it is helping you and your family.

I invite North Texans to take my survey so I can understand the impact of this benefit, and learn how I can continue to fight for middle-class North Texas families in Congress.

Click here and tell me how the new Child Tax Credit will help you

I voted to pass the American Rescue Plan Act, which included a provision that increased the Child Tax Credit to $3,000 for children ages 6-17 and $3,600 for children under 6. The legislation also improved the credit so that it is partially issued in monthly payments of $250 and $300 per child depending on the age.

According to the House Appropriations Committee, an estimated 162,300 children, or 85% in the 32nd District of Texas, will benefit from the expanded and improved Child Tax Credit. These changes will lift 13,400 children in the district out of poverty, including 4,700 kids under the age of six, and 1,800 children out of deep poverty. The average benefit for 48,100 households in Texas’ 32nd district is $3,000.

I’ve been working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and the Biden Administration, to strengthen the care economy. That means fighting for universal paid family leave to care for a sick family member, to have time as a family after the birth or adoption of a child, making child care more affordable, and offering Pre-K starting at age three. When we support caregivers -- our communities, our families and our local economy thrive.

Please take a moment to share your thoughts with me through the survey. It is an honor to serve North Texas families.

Sincerely,
