Team,
I remain focused on working to strengthen our economy and ensure that Rhode Island is on the right path towards a more broad based recovery.
In the recent legislative session, I am proud to say we passed several major legislative initiatives that accomplish those objectives.
The bills requested by my office which passed:
* Provide access to personal finance education for all Rhode Island high school students. As a former public school teacher, I know that financial education in schools leads to better financial outcomes later in life;
* Allow for the construction of a new, state-of-the-art, Central Falls High School by enhancing the school construction funding program I developed as co-chair of the state school building task force.
* Increase funding to the Green Infrastructure financing programs that I started at the Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank and have already created more than 2,000 green energy jobs in our state;
* Strengthen the West Warwick Pension system by creating a pathway for the plan to join the state retirement system;
* Secure additional funding of our office's Crime Victim Compensation Fund, which we have used to help hundreds of victims of domestic violence relocate away from their abusers.
In addition, this year I testified in favor of numerous important bills to help make Rhode Islanders more economically secure and together we won passage of many, including a $15 minimum wage, equal pay for women, making free community college permanent, and an Act on Climate bill that will put Rhode Island on a path to a clean energy economy,
We have a long road ahead to recover financially from the COVID-19 pandemic and build a better future for all Rhode Islanders. That's why I'll keep fighting to ensure our resources are being used in the most effective way to build a 21st Century economy in the Ocean State.
Will you contribute $10 or more to help me keep fighting for Rhode Island? Chip in today: [link removed]
