Join us on Wednesday, July 28 from 5-6 pm EDT for Investing in Local Leaders: Making America Safer, State-by-State
Change in this country has been most effective when it has been led by local efforts within the states. CSGV created the Safer States Initiative [[link removed]] to help support these efforts by investing resources in organizations across the nation to mobilize the gun violence prevention movement from the ground up. The initiative provides state and local organizations with funding, one-on- one coaching, partnership building opportunities, policy expertise, and advocacy skills development.
U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal , a strong gun violence prevention advocate at the federal level, will deliver opening remarks about the importance of supporting strong state gun violence prevention efforts to achieve transformational change across the nation. CSGV's Director of Policy and Programming Jen Pauliukonis [[link removed]] will moderate the discussion.
Panelists include:
- Rebecca Fischer, Executive Director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence
- Shaina Harrison, Education Director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence
The Safer States Initiative is making real-world change through its support of New Yorkers
Against Gun Violence (NYAGV). NYAGV leads a robust in-school program, ReACTION, to
educate young people in impacted communities about the root causes and impacts of gun
violence and holistic solutions. This work is complemented by state-wide advocacy campaigns to enact evidence-informed policies and build effective and diverse coalitions.
CSGV is excited to share how partners have secured legislative wins at the state level and how we can accomplish more through strategic support of local gun violence prevention advocates across the nation. CSGV believes that meaningful state-based change can occur if it is properly supported .
Attendees are welcome to submit questions for panelist consideration to
[email protected].
