Our senators have the power to end the filibuster, a procedural tool dating back to Jim Crow, which has been used to block even the most common-sense legislation from ever getting a vote.

Friend,

Last week, President Biden spoke at Philadelphia’s Constitution Center to passionately defend our right to vote amid nationwide attacks from Republican legislators. But even as he called out the ongoing “assault on our democracy,” the president said nothing about the arcane rule that allows it to happen -- and that we have the power to change.

The filibuster rule in the U.S. requires 60 votes to end floor debate on a legislative item, effectively giving the GOP minority veto power over widely popular and desperately needed legislation. Mitch McConnell has used this Jim Crow relic to block even the most common-sense reforms, including measures to end voter-suppression and ensure ballot access.

Enough is enough. It’s time to end the filibuster and save our democracy.

Call to tell your senators to bypass the filibuster so we can finally fight back against major voter suppression and disenfranchisement: [link removed]

Just last month, Republicans used the filibuster to block the For the People Act, a transformative piece of legislation that would fortify voting rights at a federal level. We must move with urgency before the John Lewis Voting Rights Act meets the same fate.

Senate Democrats actually have the power to change and even end the filibuster. In 2017, Mitch McConnell amended the filibuster so he could pack the Supreme Court -- allowing Trump to appoint three extreme justices during his term. If the GOP was able to pull it off then, we can do it now.

The legislative filibuster is arbitrary, obstructive, and not mentioned once in our Constitution. This procedural rule only serves to dangerously undermine our democratic process. With passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act on the line, we have another chance to bring sweeping reforms to protect our right to vote. The stakes are too high to stay on the sidelines.

Call your senators: End the filibuster so we can finally pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act: [link removed]
