My grandmother came to this country as a refugee when she was 7 years old.
She never made it past the fourth grade.
She served as a maid to provide for us -- so that I could go on to serve as a Mayor.
She could never afford a house -- then President Obama appointed me to house a nation.
She sacrificed so that instead of holding a mop -- I can now hold a microphone.
I’m determined to use my voice to share her incredible story -- the real story of this country.
Because as a kid who came from nothing -- I refuse to watch a man who was handed everything rip the promise of this country away.
For my grandmother, and for every family struggling to find the promise of opportunity in this country -- I want them to know they have a fighting voice on that stage.
So I’m asking: Will you help me qualify for the next debates and share my story?
Thank you,
