Bureaucrats are blocking a law that would cut taxes on family farms and small businesses.
Dear John,

Bureaucrats are delaying a law that would cut taxes on small businesses and family farms, and we need your help to show politicians that this isn’t acceptable.

Members of Parliament passed a law to cut taxes for small business owners and farmers who want to keep their business within their families on June 29.

This law would mean that when a family farm is handed over to adult children, they aren’t nuked with super high taxes. Obviously, there are lots of taxes we need to lower and this is a baby step. But tax cuts for small businesses are a good idea and the law was a good one to approve.

Now there’s a big catch.

Bureaucrats are trying to delay the law until next year and they say cabinet may even try to change the wording.

Federal rules state that laws go into effect as they are written and as soon as they receive royal assent. Bureaucrats aren’t allowed to whip out the eraser and drag their feet afterwards.

This is a slap in the face to our democracy. Unelected bureaucrats shouldn’t be able to delay a law.

Fortunately, Wayne Easter, the MP who chairs the finance committee, is calling a special meeting to hold these bureaucrats accountable. We need your help to show the committee that taxpayers won’t tolerate unelected bureaucrats trying to delay tax relief.

Can you take a few minutes to email Easter and tell him he’s doing the right thing by standing up for taxpayers?

Just use this email address:

Here’s how National Post columnist Colby Cosh describes the bureaucrat delay tactic:

“Contempt of Parliament is not a strong enough term for this: it is a bureaucratic coup d’etat, a usurpation.”

Thanks for pushing-back against unelected bureaucrats.

Sincerely,
  • Franco, Shannon, Todd, and the rest of the CTF team.
