Arizona GOP chair Kelli Ward actually told the Arizona Chairman of the Board of Election Supervisors: “We need you to stop the counting.” And “I know you don't want to be remembered as the guy who led the charge to certify a fraudulent election.”
Those are just some of the threats Trump's closest allies directed at election officials while ballots were being counted in Arizona during the 2020 election. Trump took it a step further by personally contacting Republican Maricopa Supervisor Clint Hickman TWICE after the election.
Then, following Trump's lead, Arizona Senate Republicans forced an election recount in that same Maricopa County -- one that's still ongoing.
Now Arizona's Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs is calling for an investigation into Trump's interference, reminding Arizona's Republican Attorney General that “in Arizona, interfering with election officials is a felony.”
Trump and the GOP are using baseless audits like the one in Maricopa County to sow doubt about our elections. But while Republicans have redoubled their efforts to spread the Big Lie, millions of Democrats have given up seeking accountability, claiming it's time to “move on.”
